Lender practices

Write a searchable lending post

Use consistent labels, explicit terms, and a stable update trail so readers and search tools can understand your offer.

Why formatting matters

A lending post should be understandable without the reader having to infer the currency, available amount, repayment window, location, or whether the offer is still open. Clear structure helps people scan your terms, improves site and community search, works better with accessibility software, and gives archives or authorized third-party tools consistent facts to index.

The goal is not to write for one platform or one bot. It is to publish the same important facts in a predictable, human-readable form wherever you are allowed to post. There is no hidden syntax and no guarantee that a platform or external service will index a listing.

The five rules

1. Put the decision facts in the title

Use the exact tag required by the community, then include the currency, amount range, term range, payment methods, and region when space allows.

[REQUIRED COMMUNITY TAG] USD 25-100 | 14-30 days | PayPal/Venmo | US

Do not replace essential facts with only emojis, images, or phrases such as "good terms" and "DM for details." A title should remain useful when shown alone in search results.

2. Use one labeled fact per line

Labels make a post faster to scan and reduce ambiguity. Keep labels stable between listings. Write Currency: USD instead of mixing $, dollars, and US funds across different posts.

3. Use explicit values

  • Use ISO 4217 currency codes such as USD, CAD, GBP, or EUR.
  • Write full dates as YYYY-MM-DD and timestamps as ISO 8601, preferably in UTC: 2026-07-18T16:00:00Z.
  • Write decimal amounts without currency symbols in labeled fields: Loan range: 25.00-100.00.
  • State repayment timing in days or with exact due-date rules. Avoid "soon," "next week," or "short term."
  • Name payment methods instead of saying "most apps."
  • Use Not offered or Not applicable when a field is intentionally unavailable. Do not leave readers guessing whether it was omitted.

4. Give every listing a stable identity and status

Create a unique Listing ID and keep it unchanged when you edit the post. Use one of these status values:

  • OPEN: accepting requests
  • PAUSED: temporarily not accepting requests
  • CLOSED: no longer accepting requests

Put Status and Updated near the top. When the offer changes, edit those fields and append a dated update instead of deleting the original terms. A stable history helps readers distinguish an old copy from the current listing.

5. Keep the structured block plain

Use ordinary text. Do not hide keywords, repeat unrelated locations, stuff tags, or encode facts only in an image. Decorative prose can go above or below the summary; the summary itself should stay boring and consistent. Boring is searchable.

Copy-and-paste template

Replace every angle-bracketed value. Remove a line only when the host platform prohibits it; otherwise use Not offered or Not applicable for an empty field.

[REQUIRED COMMUNITY TAG] <CURRENCY> <MIN>-<MAX> | <TERM> | <PAYMENT METHODS> | <REGION>

<One or two plain-language sentences describing the offer.>

Format: lending-listing-v1
Listing ID: <your-handle>-<YYYYMMDD>-<sequence>
Status: OPEN
Updated: <YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ>
Lender handle: <public handle used on this platform>
Platform/community: <site and community name>
Currency: <ISO currency code>
Available total: <decimal amount>
Loan range: <minimum>-<maximum>
Term range: <number of days or exact rule>
Pricing: <total repayment or fee disclosure process>
Payment methods: <semicolon-separated names>
Eligible regions: <countries or regions>
Eligibility: <short, objective requirements>
Contact: <public reply or platform-approved contact path>
Canonical URL: <permanent URL of this listing>

Notes:
- <Important condition one>
- <Important condition two>

Updates:
- <YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ>: Published as OPEN.

Format: lending-listing-v1 identifies the layout, not a LoanLedger import contract. LoanLedger does not promise automatic ingestion of a listing unless a product feature says so explicitly.

Worked example

The listing below is made up. It uses a zero-fee offer so the format shows without suggesting a price or rate.

Updates:

If the lender reaches capacity, the first fields should become:

Status: PAUSED

Then add 2026-07-18T19:30:00Z: Paused; available capacity reached. under Updates.

What not to publish

Searchable does not mean invasive. A public lending listing should not contain:

  • Borrower names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment handles, home addresses, or identity documents
  • Private-message transcripts or screenshots containing personal information
  • Transaction IDs, account numbers, access tokens, or verification answers
  • Lists of past applicants or declined borrowers
  • Unsupported accusations, legal conclusions, or private risk notes

Keep borrower-specific records in your private ledger. Use the moderated signal-submission process for evidence-backed community warnings. A public offer post is not the place to build a borrower dossier.

Common formatting failures

Everything is buried in a paragraph. Readers and indexes have to guess which number is the amount, fee, or due date. Add stable labels.

The post says "open" forever. Add an ISO timestamp and update the controlled status whenever availability changes.

The currency symbol is ambiguous. $100 can refer to multiple currencies. Write Currency: USD and Loan range: 25.00-100.00.

The only copy is an image. Include the essential terms as text even when you also use a graphic.

One post is copied everywhere with dead links. Name the host platform/community and point Canonical URL to the version you intend readers to treat as current.

The post is stuffed with keywords. Use precise facts once. Repetition makes the listing harder to read and can reduce search quality.

Before publishing

  • Confirm the title uses the platform's required tag or flair.
  • Confirm currency, amount range, term, pricing, payment methods, and region are explicit.
  • Confirm Listing ID, Status, and Updated are present.
  • Confirm the canonical URL points to the current listing.
  • Confirm the same fact is not stated differently in two places.
  • Confirm no borrower or payment-private information appears.
  • Confirm the offer and contact method comply with platform rules and applicable law.

Good formatting cannot make an offer lawful, safe, or trustworthy by itself. It makes the terms easier to find, compare, archive, and understand, which is exactly what a public listing should do.
